The woman behind the woman behind DALYA.

To celebrate DALYA’s 4th birthday, we went back to one of the earliest pieces of inspiration behind the brand: our founder Farida’s mother, Dahlia.

In the 1990s, an Egyptian newspaper published this caricature of Dahlia, on the phone, lifting a weight, seemingly doing everything at once, and jokingly called her “The Iron Lady.”

The nickname stuck. Not because she was tough, but because of what it represented: showing up, persevering, building a remarkable career while raising a family, and quietly proving just how much women are capable of.

Years later, that original newspaper caricature hangs framed in the DALYA SoHo showroom. It has been there since the beginning, a daily reminder of the woman who inspired so much of what DALYA stands for.

For our fourth birthday, we’re taking The Iron Lady out of the frame and making her wearable. The original illustration is paired with the words that have come to define DALYA: MAY SHE REIGN.
